I have been posting on my food account on Instagram for over 5 years and this is the best change I have made in all those years – using photography backdrops for a cleaner, consistent and aesthetic AF feed!
Out of all the digital and physical products I use for my Instagram, these are BY FAR my top recommendation. They have seriously upped my Instagram game 10-fold. If you are at a point where you want to level up your content, start growing on the platform, maybe even get to a point where you can get paid work on social media then you NEED these photo backdrops.
This post is all about the best photography backdrops. These are my favourite product that helped me improve my Instagram content and here’s where you can find them online. Jump to FAQs here.
What are photography backdrops?
These vinyl backdrops are used as backgrounds and ‘scene setters’ for photography. Most professional photographers use these in their work to get a clean, consistent look to their photos. But that doesn’t mean you can’t achieve that at home for your food blog too!
They are thin and waterproof making them super convenient too. They are light enough that they are able to be hung up to act as back walls as well as tabletops depending on what you need.
My first backdrops are still looking almost new at over a year old! They really do last.
I am so thankful for past Libby for taking the risk to start investing in my little Instagram account. The small investment has been a huge factor in my account growing from 5,000 to 13,000+ followers in a year! Major growth!
And they might not be as expensive as you first thought. They start at just £20 each… or even less when you use this code for a FREE backdrop!

Best photography backdrops:
Here are all the backdrops I own and have showcased on my feed. I tend to lean to the bright, white or natural wood look but they have a huge array of dark and moody and happy and colourful backdrops if this is more your style.
ATLAS WOOD
Light, teal, rustic wood look. One of my newest editions. I love how this can be used to add some subtle colour to my photos without distracting from showcasing the food.
See this on my feed:
WEATHERBOARD
My most used backdrop for sponsored posts because it is simple and adds a real home-cooked vibe to the photos. Using a white backdrop can allow for colourful food to really pop and stand out.

ARCTIC MARBLE*
White marble was one of the first backdrops I ever got and is still a firm favourite. I use it ALL the time. It screams ‘Instagram aesthetic’ to me! You really can’t go wrong with a marble backdrop. I think it is a staple everyone should have in their collection.
*The white marble backdrop I use has been discontinued but this is a really close dupe.

I also have this gorgeous pinky peach marble look backdrop which is one of the newest editions to my collection to add some subtle colour to my Instagram which I know will work perfectly with neutral colours and simple foods.
WARM OAK
Natural wood colour is a STAPLE for a backdrop collection. Super versatile and CLUB backdrops have a range of different wood look backdrops to suit your style and colours. I have a few now but some have been discontinued but it’s always worth checking the website for new styles emerging.
I love how their change up their backdrops so frequently because it means they are always bringing out new designs to feed my backdrop obsession.

FAQ
Do I get Vinyl or Canvas?
I would recommend the vinyl to the majority of people. If you do food photography, like me, or product photography these should be perfect. Canvas’ are much larger and best for portraits for fashion photography. Plus the vinyl is smaller so they are also cheaper and easier to store, and comes in more prints.
What size should I buy?
Vinyls come in 60x90cm and 120x90cm and canvas’ come in 1×1.5m or 1×2.1m. All of mine are the smallest 60x90cm and are plenty big enough for my needs.
Argh! I can’t decide which to get?
Everyone will have their own style and backdrops that suit them. I recommend trying a natural wood look one, such as Moire or ashen, and a white wood look, such as weatherboard, and maybe a marble to start with!
